Goal to Witness

Goal to Witness

Do you make New Year’s resolutions each year? If you don’t, why not?

Many people hesitate to make resolutions because they’ve failed to follow through so many times in the past that it doesn’t seem worth the effort anymore. To avoid disappointment, they simply stop setting expectations.

Sadly, many Christians take this same attitude into their faith.

Maybe you’ve messed up before, feel unqualified, or aren’t sure what to say when it comes to sharing your faith. Instead of stepping out in obedience, it feels easier to keep quiet and keep your faith to yourself.

But what if God is calling you to something more?

Set Goals for Sharing Your Faith

I once knew a man who had the opposite mindset. Instead of saying, “I can’t witness” or “I don’t know what to say,” he set bold goals every year to witness and lead people to the Lord.

His name was Tom. Tom led me to Christ, and since then, he has led thousands of others to Jesus. One year, he set a goal of leading 1,800 people to the Lord and by God’s grace, he reached that goal. This was all Jesus working through him, but Tom’s obedient heart allowed the Lord to use him in powerful ways.

Another man I know set a goal to lead 5,000 people to the Lord. And remarkably, he did. When he realized he couldn’t reach that many people through his normal routine, he stepped out in faith and started a prison ministry in Tampa, Florida. God used that decision to reach countless lives. What an incredible testimony of faithfulness and trust in Jesus.

Change Your Behavior to Reach More People for Christ

So what’s the takeaway from these stories?

In order to reach their goals, they had to change their behavior. They couldn’t continue doing the same things and expect different results. The same principle applies to us today.

What do you need to change in order to lead someone to Jesus this year?

You might think it’s too difficult, not your gifting, or that you don’t have the resources. But there’s one thing every believer has: the Holy Spirit.

So why not set a goal this year to lead just one person to the Lord? One conversation. One opportunity. One step of obedience.

Trust the Holy Spirit When You Witness

Jesus says in Matthew 10:20:

“For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.”

You don’t have to rely on your own strength or wisdom. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you, give you the words, and prepare hearts.

Christian author and pastor Dr. Gene Getz reminds us that it is the responsibility of every Christian to pray, share, and give. That responsibility includes all of us.

Let’s commit today to pray for opportunities to share the Gospel and to give toward Kingdom work. If each Christian shared their faith with just one person, and that person shared with one more, the Gospel could reach the entire world.

What a glorious day that would be.

How Can We Reach the World for Christ?

It starts with one person.

Let that one person be you.

May God richly bless you this week as you resolve to witness in this new year.
